Crisis response

Where to give, when we are not the answer

Organisations already working on two live crises, what each of them actually does, and which accept cryptocurrency directly.

People ask us where to send money when something terrible is in the news. Usually the honest answer is not "to us". We do no relief work in Iran, France or Italy, and an organisation that is already on the ground will always turn a gift into help faster than one that is not.

So this page takes no donations. Every link below goes straight to the organisation. We are not paid for them, they are not affiliate links, and we gain nothing if you use one. What we can offer is the thing we are actually good at: checking who is real, and telling you which of them will take a cryptocurrency gift without converting it first.

Iran: executions and a closed financial system

Iran has been at war since 28 February 2026. Against that backdrop, Amnesty International reported on 13 October 2026 that five men convicted over the January 2026 protests were executed in a single week, between 30 September and 5 October, and put the total at at least 34 people executed in connection with that uprising. Amnesty describes the trials as grossly unfair and tainted by torture, and has called on the UN Security Council to refer the situation to the International Criminal Court.

The gap money actually fills: documentation, legal defence and advocacy. These are fundable today and are what the organisations working on Iran are asking for. Delivering aid inside the country is the part that is effectively closed to small donors, because Iran is subject to FATF countermeasures and every regulated payment business screens against sanctions lists.

Takes crypto directly

Amnesty International

Published the reporting on the executions cited above, and is campaigning for an International Criminal Court referral. Its own site states that it accepts crypto donations below €10,000 directly, in Bitcoin, Ethereum and over 100 other cryptocurrencies, processed through The Giving Block and Gemini. Larger gifts go by email so they can be handled under its ethical policies.

Gifts are received by Amnesty International Limited.

Abdorrahman Boroumand Center

Documents human rights abuses in Iran and runs the Omid Memorial, a database of people executed there, alongside projects on juvenile executions and the persecution of lawyers. It has co-published with Human Rights Watch. Its own pages do not state a charitable registration or country of incorporation, which we note here rather than guess at.

A caveat worth stating plainly: the FATF does carve out humanitarian aid, food, health supplies and personal remittances, to be handled on a risk basis rather than blocked outright. So it is false to say that helping ordinary Iranians is illegal. But "on a risk basis" is an instruction to a compliance department, and the organisations that pass it are the ones with licences and lawyers. We explain why in the article linked below.

France and Italy: protest, arrest and legal aid

In the third week of October 2026, protests over the cost of living and education turned violent across several European countries. France saw what reporting called its most violent weekend in years, with two deaths, roughly two thousand arrests and injuries in the hundreds across students, school staff and police. In Italy, Milan had two consecutive nights of unrest, with dozens arrested including minors and damage inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and further arrests in Turin and Bologna. Demonstrations were also reported in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Greece and Albania. Treat every figure here as preliminary; the counts still differed between outlets as we wrote this.

The gap money actually fills: legal representation for the people arrested, support for injured journalists, and uninsured losses for small businesses. What is not a gap is emergency food, water or shelter: both countries have working ambulances, universal healthcare and riot-damage compensation schemes, and nobody there is going hungry for want of a parcel.

Reporters Without Borders

Works on press freedom: supporting working journalists, and litigating over press access. Relevant to both situations on this page — jailed reporters in Iran, and injured ones covering the European protests. The parent body is a French public-interest association and its US arm is a registered 501(c)(3). We could not confirm from its own site that it accepts cryptocurrency, so we are not claiming that it does.

Gifts are received by Reporters Without Borders, Inc. (RSF USA), a US 501(c)(3).

We have not verified a specific legal-aid or mutual-aid fund in either country, so we are not naming one. Those funds are local by nature and a neighbourhood organisation will know better than we do who needs representation this week. If you go looking for one, use the checklist below first — the week after a news event is exactly when fake appeals appear.

Before you give to any crisis appeal

Every widely covered emergency produces a wave of new fundraising pages within days. Most are sincere and some are not, and the dishonest ones share a shape: a domain registered a fortnight ago, urgency as the main argument, no named person who is accountable, and crypto as the only payment method. A crypto payment cannot be reversed, which is a feature when you trust the recipient and a trap when you do not.

Disclosure: we receive nothing for any link on this page and none of them is an affiliate link. We have read each organisation’s own published material and nothing beyond it — we have not audited anyone’s accounts, and inclusion here is not an endorsement of everything an organisation does. TraceGood receives its own donations through NOWPayments. If you find something here that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
